Tesla Unveils European Semi Specs: 550 km Range and 800 kW Charging

Tesla disclosed European specifications for its Semi electric truck days ahead of its formal launch at IAA Transportation in Hannover on September 15-20. The European variant delivers up to 550 kilometres of range at full 40-tonne load, consumes 1 kWh per kilometre, and features an 800 kW Megacharger that recovers approximately 60 per cent of range in 30 minutes.

The one-minute read

Tesla Europe announced European specifications for the Semi electric truck via X, detailing a maximum range of 550 kilometres at full 40-tonne load with energy consumption of 1 kWh per kilometre. The vehicle features an ePTO system up to 25 kW and a kerb weight of 9,100 kilograms.

These European figures diverge from the US production variant. The American Long Range Semi achieves 805 kilometres of range, though at a lighter combined weight of 37.2 tonnes versus Europe's 40-tonne specification. European regulations permit zero-emission trucks to exceed the standard 40-tonne threshold, impacting range calculations at maximum payload.

Charging capabilities show notable differences between markets. The European Megacharger operates at 800 kW, recovering approximately 60 per cent of range within 30 minutes. This represents a reduction compared to US charging infrastructure capable of 1.2 megawatts, which recovers around 70 per cent in the same timeframe.

Tesla enters an established European heavy-vehicle market. Competitors including Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Trucks, MAN, Scania, DAF and Renault already market battery-electric trucks with existing service networks. The Mercedes eActros 600 delivers approximately 500 kilometres of range, positioning Tesla's 550-kilometre specification as competitive though not decisively advantageous. Tesla has not yet communicated European pricing or confirmed delivery timing for the Semi.
